The Research Seminar Series was launched in 2008 by Middlesex University Dubai and has featured more than 210 presentations to date. The seminars provide a forum for researchers to share their work. Presenters include faculty from Middlesex University Dubai and other universities in the United Arab Emirates, as well as researchers from other global institutions.

Based in a UAE tertiary institution, this research explores the motivational factors which drive or deter Emirati women in Higher Education and highlights the mismatch of beliefs between expatriate faculty and local students. Findings indicate the philosophy of care is imperative in developing intrinsic motivation for Gulf female student and leads to increased academic achievement and developed self-efficacy.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) is organising the fourth annual Knowledge Summit in Dubai on November 21-22, 2017. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, and by directives from MBRF Chairman H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the 2017 event is set to bear the theme “Knowledge and the 4th Industrial Revolution”.

The Knowledge Summit 2017 is a platform that brings together decision-makers, thinkers, experts and pioneers in the knowledge industry, as well as scientists, academics, and specialists from all around the world, to discuss pressing issues and challenges facing the industry, review best practices and experiences and offer solutions to meet the challenges.

Moreover, the Summit will include the announcement of winners in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Award 2017, the prestigious award that seeks to honour those who have made significant contributions to the regional and international knowledge industry.

Similarly, the results of the Global Knowledge Index 2017 will be released during the Summit. The Index was launched by the Foundation in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to study knowledge at an international level, identify opportunities and challenges in the Arab world and compare them with those of other countries around the world. The Global Knowledge Index has engaged more than 140 countries.

The Knowledge Summit 2017 will look back on the history of industrial revolutions and their role in transforming people’s lives for the better, on the one hand, and in supporting the development of knowledge societies, on the other. The Summit will shed light on the first, second, and third industrial revolutions, before tackling the subject of the Fourth Industrial Revolution – a.k.a. “The Digital Revolution” – which began at the outset of the 21st Century.

ACLing 2017 is the third edition of the Arabic Computational Linguistics series (ACLing). The conference aims to bring together leading academicians, scientists, researchers and practitioners from all over the world to exchange new ideas and the latest results in Arabic Computational Linguistics and NLP. This field has become increasingly important, as more and more Arabic information is now available through the Web, Social Media and Intranet services.  The scope of the conference encompasses the theory and practice of all aspects of Arabic Computational Linguistics in text, audio, image, and video. Arabic is the most prominent member of the Semitic family (and its dialects) which includes many languages and dialects spoken by a large number of native speakers (around 300 million). Arabic has a rich and productive pattern-based morphology and syntactic constructions. However, the Arabic language as a whole is still understudied and many of its computational systems are underdeveloped. The British University in Dubai has been chosen to organize and host the ACLing2017 conference because it has a mission of establishing itself as a provider of world-class scholarship, education, and research.
